And this week one man stood above the rest.
Gundogan was the star of Game Week 16Getty ImagesIlkay Gundogan’s horrible knee injury last season deprived the Premier League of one of its classiest players for over nine months.
The smooth German barely had time to make an impression after his move from Borussia Dortmund in summer 2016.
And City were then quick to move on in his long-term absence, bolstering their attacking options with the signing of Bernardo Silva.

But Gundogan is back and deputised wonderfully for David Silva against Tottenham, scoring in the 4-1 win and generally producing a scintillating performance.
His goal and assist against Spurs was then followed by another assist against Leicester in the League Cup – and the crucial Star Man award.
That took his total to 19 points in Game Week 16 alone, more than doubling his overall total.
Gundogan superbly nodded past Hugo LlorisPA:Press AssociationThe length of Silva’s absence is unknown so Gundogan may feature more regularly, particularly during the ridiculously congested Christmas period.
And at £2m he’s an absolute snip, with his price almost certainly set to rise in the coming weeks.
Is he the best back up option or ‘Plan B’ in the Premier League?
