Everyone’s saying the same thing about today’s snore-fest of a Merseyside derby

The Merseyside derby is one of the highlights of the Premier League season, they said.

They’d be lots of goals and cards and drama, they said.

They were wrong.

Not only has today’s game been a bit of yawn-fest, it’s essentially being used as a dress rehearsal for Liverpool’s Champions League second-leg clash with Man City.

The Reds incredible 3-0 win over City during the week came at the wrong time for one of the biggest derbies of the season, with Jurgen Klopp missing the likes of Joel Matip, Adam Lallana and Emre Can for today.

But he’s also decided to rest the likes of Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, with Dominic Solanke and Danny Ings staring up front.

As a result, there’s not really been much to get excited about.

Jordan Pickford pulled off a fine save in the first-half to deny Solanke his first goal for Liverpool, while Yannick Bolasie was denied a spectacular goal thanks to Loris Karius… and that’s it.

What time does the Merseyside derby start?

Joking aside, a Merseyside Derby used to mean something. It's an absolute embarrassment that it's being treated like a pre season friendly with one side fielding a weakened team, not to mention disrespectful. What even is a Schneiderlin anyway?

God these pre-game practise friendlies can be so boring. #EVELIV

Still, it was nice to see Solanke get a run out from the start for Liverpool. And Wayne Rooney slide in on James Milner, that was pretty amusing.

Manchester derby’s on at 5:30, folks.
