Neymar’s return for Brazil reminded everyone why he is the world’s most expensive footballer

This was very pleasing to see.

One of the likely stars of the World Cup taking to a football pitch just over a week before it starts having been injured for three months.

And Neymar’s return for Brazil could not have gone any better.

As part of Brazil’s global tour they played Croatia at Anfield in what was another of those weird pre-World Cup friendlies where countries play others teams that are geographically close to their group opponents.

With Serbia on the cards for Brazil in Group E it’s only natural Croatia would be a suitable opponent in the build up, right?

While Liverpool was turned into a carnival party for the day, the first half did not live up the billing.

Some proper stars on show hereEPA

Firstly Neymar wasn’t even starting the game, but Brazil were poor up front and suspect at the back, while Croatia were efficient if not spectacular.

Then at half-time we saw the Brazilian poster boy getting ready to come on to a football pitch since he was injured on February 25th.

And within 25 minutes of coming back from a three month lay-off he reminded the footballing world exactly how good he is.

The world’s most expensive footballer received the ball on the edge of the box and was immediately powering towards goal.

With a dip of the shoulder he skipped past two challenges and cut back onto his right foot.

Then he released a fierce shot that nearly took Philippe Coutinho’s head off but went high into the roof of the net.

A pretty spectacular comeback after so long out.

Roberto Firmino grabbed the second and Brazil finished the game 2-0.

Brazil have a terrifying attacking line-upReuters

It will be a huge relief to Brazil fans all over the world because so much rests on Neymar’s form.

He’s the superstar in the team but surrounded with the brilliance of Firmino, Gabriel Jesus and Willian, Brazil have a razor sharp attack dripping with pace.

This could be their year, again.
