Leonardo Bonucci’s season goes from bad to worse after comical own goal

When AC Milan convinced Leonardo Bonucci to leave Juventus for the San Siro it appeared to be the best bit of business in Europe.

A commanding, elegant centre-back with the passing ability to put most midfielders to shame.

But it hasn’t worked out.

Milan are already falling behind in Serie A, with Vincenzo Montella’s side sitting in seventh place, 16 points off leaders Napoli.

The Europa League offered Bonucci something of a distraction as Milan had already qualified for the next round heading into the final group game, against Austria Wien.

But then this happened…

Now Milan’s social media team are being very kind to Bonucci there.

What is should have read is ‘Bonucci steers dribbling shot into the back of his own net via his backside’.

All under control Back in the nick of time For my next trick, I shall make the ball disappear Time to hide

Luckily Boncucci’s team-mates were on hand to help him out.

Six minutes after the Italy international’s own goal Ricardo Rodriguez equalised.

Then nine minutes later Andre Silva put Milan ahead after a deflected free-kick fell kindly into his path.

Not done there, 19-year-old striker Patrick Crutone made it 3-1 heading into half-time, ensuring Bonucci wouldn’t get a bollocking from his manager.

That’s what friends are for.
